South Africans can now apply for passports at their respective bankssa passport

Cape Town – South Africans will now be able to apply for their passports and Smart Card IDs at their respective banks as the department of home affairs tries to improve turn-around times and convenience for applicants.

Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba launched the innovative initiative in Newtown, Johannesburg on Wednesday, outlining the new application process available from Standard Bank, FNB and Nedbank.

Department of Home Affairs spokesperson Thabo Mokgola told Traveller24 the department was close to finalising a similar process with Absa and once finalised a separate announcement would be made.
